What CBAM costs you for one CN code.
Enter a code, a country of origin and a tonnage. Back comes the scope, the factor, the mark-up, the threshold, the price and your filing date. A line names the article behind it.
| In scope | Annex I, on the 2026 CN nomenclature | Yes, iron and steel |
|---|---|---|
| CBAM factor | Directive 2003/87/EC Art. 10a(1a), the share of the benchmark you deduct | 95% |
| Mark-up on default values | Reg (EU) 2025/2621, as amended by 2026/1740 | 20% |
| 50 tonne threshold | Article 2(3)(a), per importer per year | May exempt you |
| Certificates | default values, less the free allocation adjustment | 65 |
| Cost | certificates at the latest quarterly price | €5,350.80 |
| Certificate price | published by the Commission, Q3 2026 | €82.32 |
| You file by | Article 6, declaration and surrender | 30 September 2028 |

One code from each family
The 7 lines of the answer
A line decides one thing and names the article that settles it, so you can check the number against the consolidated text.
- In scope
- Your code is covered, outside CBAM, or a heading whose covered children the answer lists.
- Annex I of Reg (EU) 2023/956
- CBAM factor
- The share of the CBAM benchmark you deduct from the embedded emissions. It's 97.5% in 2026 and falls to 0% in 2034, so the bill rises each year.
- Directive 2003/87/EC Art. 10a(1a)
- Mark-up
- The premium you pay on a default value instead of verified emissions data. It rises to 30% from 2028 outside fertilisers.
- Reg (EU) 2025/2621
- 50 tonne threshold
- A flag, never a zero. Under 50 tonnes a year you may be exempt, and the count runs per importer across the year.
- Article 2(3)(a)
- Certificates
- The whole units you surrender. It's the emissions on default values minus the free allocation adjustment, rounded up.
- Article 22
- Certificate price
- The price with the quarter it belongs to. From 2027 the Commission publishes it every week.
- Commission publication
- Filing date
- The day the declaration and the surrender fall due for the import year you entered.
- Article 6
Annex I coverage
572 CN codes across 6 families. A code outside them gets a rendered answer that says so, never a blank.
| Family | Codes | Threshold | Mark-up 2028 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron and steel | 479 | 50 t | 30% |
| Aluminium | 58 | 50 t | 30% |
| Fertilisers | 27 | 50 t | 1% |
| Cement | 6 | 50 t | 30% |
| Electricity | 1 | none | 30% |
| Hydrogen | 1 | none | 30% |
- in In coils, not further worked than hot-rolled, with patterns in relief
- partial 20 covered codes under this heading
- out T-shirts of cotton, outside Annex I
We build it from Reg (EU) 2023/956 as amended by 2025/2083 and 2026/1740, Annex I on the 2026 CN nomenclature, 10,910 default-value rows from the Commission correcting act of 2026-07-31, and the certificate price the Commission publishes. The status page shows the dataset running in production.

GET /v1/resolve returns what you see above. The calculator and the endpoint run the same engine over the same dataset version.

The unauthenticated limit
3 answers a day from one address, on this page and on the endpoint. All other endpoints needs a key. Importer adds a watch list with alerts. Developer adds the API, 50,000 calls a month, and the MCP server.
This build serves 2026-10-19.451099, published 2026-10-19. The version rides with the answer, so a figure you filed in March checks out in September.
Questions about the calculator
3 a day from one address. A plan raises the limit and opens the endpoint your system calls.
4, 6 and 8 digits. A 4- or 6-digit heading answers with the covered codes under it, so you can narrow to one line.
Tonnes times the default value with its mark-up, minus tonnes times the CBAM benchmark times the year's CBAM factor, rounded up to whole certificates. That's Reg (EU) 2025/2620, Equations 1 and 6.
Yes. The answer carries the dataset version that produced it, and the change feed shows what moved between 2 versions.
No. It runs the regulation and names the article behind each number. Take the result into your compliance process.
The address bar holds your query, so the link opens the same answer for a colleague or a broker.
The same formula worked by hand, step by step: CBAM calculation example: 1,000 t of steel costs €253,919
